- : - Steve's Bio - : -———————————— Steven Erickson is originally from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. His musical development began at a very early age, and as a result has spread to cover many different branches of the musical world. He has worked hard to maintain high level skills as a classical and jazz pianist, which has paid off for him: He is currently a member of the US Air Force Band in Washington D.C., serving as the pianist for the Airmen of Note since 1999. The 'Note' is known across the country as the Air Force's premier jazz ensemble. Despite his current focus in jazz, his classical skills have not quietly slipped away. He has been active as a chamber performer and concerto soloist, most recently performing the Schubert "Trout" Quintet and Trios by Mendelssohn and Brahms with members of the Air Force Strings, as well as a Mozart Concerto with the Air Force Orchestra. He is also routinely called upon to serve as a choral and instrumental accompanist in the D.C. metro area. Steve earned his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at Brigham Young University in 1987. He continued his education at Rice University, completing a Master of Music degree in piano performance in 1992. He did doctoral studies at the University of Kansas from 1992 to 1996, after which he served as the director of jazz studies at Truman State University from 1996 to 1997. In ‘97, he began his association with US Air Force Bands, taking a position in the USAF Heartland of America Band in Omaha, Nebraska. |
